We needed lunch and I really didn't want to eat cafeteria food. I headed upstairs to the Saloon and found a table that wasn't in the solarium area under the blazing hot sun. I guess this review is strictly for the Saloon on the second floor.
Everyone around me ordered pizza so I did too. The bartender suggested the mushroom medley and so I went ahead with that. For $24, we had a huge 8 slice pizza.
It was one of the best vegetarian pizzas I've ever tasted! Tomato sauce, mozzarella, shiitake, cremini, and oyster mushrooms, caramelized red onions, roasted garlic, and tomatoes. And a twisty crust! They do not skimp on toppings here, my friends!
I highly recommend the pizza!! Lots of beers to choose from as well! Great lunch spot if you can break away from the slopes!
The saloon here is an Alta staple. Perhaps not as famous an Apres spot as Peruvian, I come here when I'm too tired to trek across the parking lot. Decent food, cheap pitchers of beer, and amazing views from the tables by the windows. If you want a seat, it is best to get here before 4. After the sun sets, it loses quite a bit of energy, so don't count on having a wild time here.
Located at the base of Collins lift, GMD sports an awesome vantage point of the mountain. Their food is bar fair. Pizza is a must try! Expensive but really good! For the value minded visitors I would go for the wings and spinach salad a shareable moment. Fireplaces galore ample tables and comfy couches to lounge while waiting for you ski buds or use as your temporary office. GMD the place to be!
Opened to the public in 1962, the Goldminer's Daughter at the base of Alta also know as the "GMD", features a Ski Shop, Day Spa, Saloon, Cafe, Restaurant and Lodge. GMD is just steps from the base of Alta Ski Area's Collins and Wildcat lifts and ticket windows. The Goldminer's Daughter opened to the public in 1962.This review is for the Saloon and Cafe.
As a lifelong Skier and an Alta-Holic with 20+ years at this resort, the GMD is where I fuel up with breakfast before a day on the slopes, boot up, and grab beers and bar snacks after the lifts close.
Downstairs in the cafe, you can grab a cooked to order breakfast of eggs, potatoes, breakfast meat and toast for around $10 from 7 am to 10:30 am. There are plenty of tables to eat your breakfast and boot up and they have small to large lockers available starting at .50 cents to lock your gear up before you head out to the slopes. The cafe also serves up lunch, including soups, salads, sandwiches and burgers from 11 am to 3 pm.
After skiing, get out of your ski boots and head upstairs to the Goldminer's Saloon for a few cold beers and bar snacks. The Nachos are a great choice to share with your ski friends while you swap stories about your day in the Utah Powdah! They feature local craft beers on tap from the SLC area served by the Pint or Pitcher. In the spring, grab a cold beer outside on the deck at Slope Side Joe's, order up a burger from the outdoor grill and kick back in the sun and enjoy the music.
Step back in history and enjoy your visit to The Goldminer's Daughter, don't forget to grab some souvenirs or ski supplies in the ski shop while your there.
Very cute lodge with restaurant on third floor. Menu quite interesting, with good specials. Mark H. waiter offered lovely Caesar salad as alternative to kids menu fries. My salmon was done quite nicely with veggies and basmati. Vegan gumbo was good starter. If you are staying nearby, Jay will pick you up and drop you back off. And definite repeater.
